Serena, 32, has only played competitive lawn bowls for the past year, however, she aims to represent Australia in the National squad in 2014, with her current focus being to medal at the State Championships and Australian Open.

Serena started playing lawn bowls as a competitor growing up however after getting sick she thought her sporting days were behind her. A few years later, she saw lawn bowls on the TV and started practicing the movements at home to see if playing was a possibility. She then joined a local club and practices with a coach.

After getting a sickness in China when she was 19, Serena recovered but caught the common bug a month after being home and her system seemed to not be able to handle the bug. Serena started experiences pain and pins and needles down her left arm and right leg and started to lose use of her limbs. Unexpectedly, Serena started to experience a problem with the vagus nerve running to her heart and given five years to live with a experimental medication released in her 5th year, prevented the disorder from progressing. However, her arm is permanently in a sling and she uses a walking stick on and off the green.

Serena’s sporting achievements was, after only playing lawn bowls competitively for a short time, winning Silver at the State Championships, single division, going on to win 5ht in singles and bronze in pairs at the Nationals in July 2013.
